RICHARD FIERO

Photo by 42 North on Pexels.com

“I had to protect my family.

And, everybody in that room was my family.”

So, Richard Fiero explained,

“These were all good people.”

The soul and heart are strained.

The heart and body are pained

beyond false boundaries of age,

race, gender, and faith.

Who stands partner with such grace,

spread by this hero who stood up to hate?

From whose pulpit will he be praised?

The same one which makes baseless claims

that simply being what God made,

true to self and biology,

somehow makes a sinner who must be saved?

Whose audacious foolery is this?

What jaundiced view leads

gentle souls astray from God’s bliss

in the diversity of His creativity ?

Such dark roads followed by the judgement prone

lead always to the home which the violent call home.

Close down the dangerous paths from such pews.

Put up warning “unsafe” road signs. Shout the good news.

Accept all of God’s creation, or stand alone.

And, for God’s sake, embrace a truth known well;

following paths of fear lead straight to hell.

DOMINION

Photo by Ryan Klaus on Pexels.com

Why must we believe in hierarchical hold

over all of creation when we know

creation is a manifestation humble and bold

of greater power than our own?

Creation is the hand of God

who needs no interlopers to command

what has already been put into a plan

to continue the life force falling from His hands.

No dominion then, an ancient view,

replaced by a single rule of egality

to love each creation as He loves you.

No dominion then, but brotherhood,

as Francis told the Assisi fold,

brother sun and sister moon

brother wolf and sister frog

brother lake and sister river

brother corn and sister clover

brother rock and sister sand

brother man and sister woman

brother children and sister aged

brother Muslim, Hindu and Jew

sister Catholic and Protestant, too.

No dominion needed here.

Brotherhood and sisterhood

held close and made dear.

Creation needs no dominion

to replace our fear.

Faith, hope and love makes this clear.

So preach to creation, but not of your rule.

Preach of your love and promises true

to protect and defend any and all

which is shared with, not given, to you.

LOVE AND MIRACLES

Photo by Jacub Gomez on Pexels.com

Either everything is a miracle

or nothing can be.

The choice is ours.

It seems to me.

More is unseen than seen;

more unknown than known.

I believe in all that could be.

I await the next miracle.

Hope tells me this is true.

Faith gives me patience to wait

for miracles, my heart to renew.

Hold my hand and we

can wait together.

Oh, the wonders we shall see;

none more miraculous

than my love for you

and yours for me.

Love show us miracles

to set our souls free.

Either everything is love

or nothing can be.

WORDS

Are words without heart more marketing than art?

Is there any assurety my words sit on your lips

with the same joy they sit on mine?

I count on words to keep us all alive.

Or is it false security to believe in such vanity?

I sit quietly, in meek wonder at the power of words

to turn a cheek against a blow,

or use a laugh to turn aside sorrow.

As I await inspiration words flow.

I wonder how this can be so.

What is life but waiting to know?

What is hope but a quickening of spirit?

What is faith but a breath in and breath out?

What is love but accepting whatever comes about?

Has life any purpose or is it merely aspiration?

Is life simply our imagination?

Without imagination can we survive?

Can any nation?

I wait.

I breathe.

I accept.

I imagine.

I survive.

HOLY COMMUNION

Hope is a gift we can only give ourselves

when we have faith in ourselves

which requires we love ourselves.

Believing in ourselves

allows us to believe in others.

We only know this by the gift of love

others give us.

The hopeless cannot have faith

until they love themselves.

They foment insurrection

to make a dark connection

with other lost souls.

Loving the faithless,

those who have lost faith

with their own humanity,

with their own community

is perhaps our own best hope

for unity.

Perhaps love is the more difficult gift,

the more difficult to find,

the more difficult to hold fast.

Perhaps we are not meant to hold onto love

to make it last;

but to let it go and find its way,

to those whose need is greater than our own,

that we may create better days.

Shout Out

Trust is a difficult thing

to those without wings

asked to fly.

Hope fades heart strings

Of those pulled awry

by questions unanswered.

We try

to keep faith with leaders

who cannot say why

they stand aside.

We plead for speed

To save lives.

Answers lie within

not outside;

but words must be

Shouted out to be heard

so there is no doubt

what we expect

To protect

Ukrainian lives.

Three Bows to Untie

There are three bows to be untied

if peace is to abide.

Untie the bow of fear

and open the package of hope.

Untie the bow of greed

and open the package of faith.

Untie the bow of hate

and open the package of love.

Pretend it is Christmas Day

and celebrate

Peace to all of good will,

If you will.

Pretend it is your birthday

and free yourself

Of the past.

When all the bows are untied

Peace will abide.
