REMAINING ON STAGE

Crickets on the hearth,
Spiders in the bed,
push early-morning risers
to live out their dread
of hurricanes and floods
and myriad disasters;
reminding us we are mere humans
and the joke of the universe’s laughter.
Perhaps, that is why some few stay
and refuse to be subdued,
pretending they control the stage
lifting a finger in Mother Nature’s face.
And we imagine they are me and you.
As the curtain comes down
the audience leaves,
except for the very few.
And laughter dies, as seas and rivers
overcome their bounds and flow anew.

AMUSED

Men say there are nine muses
all female,
all source,
all inspiration
behind man’s creation.
I alone amuse myself,
a female
well enough,
tough enough
wise enough
behind my own creation.
We females are funny that way.
We have no time
to while away,
nor our egos sway,
where power games lay.
We do not play.
We females amuse ourselves
as we go on life’s way
to build lives better,
to make peace surer,
to allay furor
which gets in the way.
We find joy in every day.
We bring joy
to every girl and boy,
to every woman and man,
to all we can,
smiling all the way.
Men may need nine muses.
Women are happy to be
all nine at every time,
in every way,
on every day.
We women do not play.

Letter to the Editor: Bar associations must insist on removal of Justices Thomas and Alito
Newark Advocate
U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have engaged in insurrectionist activities, or at the least appear in support of it, by supporting calls to state legislators to create false electors ( Thomas); flying the American flag in support of insurrection at home (Alito) ; and by refusing to rule in a timely fashion so as to impede resolution of the president’s “absolute immunity” issue, contrary to procedural and substantive precedent. Both fail judicial impartiality by ruling on cases of “friends” giving expensive “gifts.”
null
Chief Justice John Roberts seems unable to stop such breach of legal ethics. Congressional impeachment of these justices is necessary, but seems unlikely given Republican obstruction.
It is time for bar associations nationwide to insist Alito and Thomas be removed from the court and disbarred from practicing law. Every lawyer in this country has sworn an oath to behave ethically and uphold the constitutions and laws of state and nation. This includes Alito and Thomas.
null
Why are the lawyers of this country remaining silent while the rule of law weakens at every level of adjudication (Judge Cannon)?
Speak now or we may forever have to hold our peace. The law may not be able to retain its union with justice and freedom, unless we speak now.
Columbus resident Louise Annarino is a former Ohio assistant attorney general, former associate director of legal affairs at Ohio University, and a former attorney at Legal Aid Society of Columbus who is now retired from the practice of law.

Where Are the Bar Associations ?
by Louise Annarino, J.D., former attorney at Legal Aid Society of Columbus, Ohio ; Former Associate Director of Legal Affairs at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio; former Assistant Attorney General of the State of Ohio; now retired from the practice of law.
Both Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have engaged in insurrectionist activities, or at very least the appearance of their support of it ; not simply by ignoring and thus supporting calls to state legislators to create false electors ( Thomas’ wife Ginny) and by flying insurrectionist flag on his front lawn (Alito), but by refusing to rule in a timely fashion on issues surrounding attempts to overturn the 2020 election, impeding the resolution and manipulating the outcome contrary to procedural and substantive precedent. Both have also undermined the required judicial impartiality by ruling on cases of “friends” supplying them with expensive gifts and trips.
Chief John Roberts has failed to stop such breach of legal ethics. It is time for Congress to impeach Alito and Thomas. The Republican members who support the insurrectionists and its leader, including Rep. Johnson will, of course block any such effort to save the Court and its integrity. They have time only to go to NY and attack the legal process in the criminal trial of the ex-president, lending their public support to the defendant. Republicans are relying on Alito to block any effort to hold Mr. Trump accountable.
It is time for the National Bar Association, and every local and state bar association to step up and abide by the oaths their members took to uphold the constitution and laws of every state and the United States of America. And, to uphold the legal ethics these members agreed to follow before they be allowed to appear before the bench and plead a case. Surely, every lawyer recognizes the need to do so. Why are the lawyers of this country remaining silent in the face of efforts to destroy the rule of law at every level of adjudication?
It is time for lawyers to join together and save the legal Justice system in this country.
