BRAVE ACTS

Brave acts brave histories make

of men and women, and nations

united untidily, unrepentantly

but bravely.

Too seldom we see such as this

in nations guided by bliss

following trade’s path

toward profit and math.

Adding up cash into power is not bad.

What one does with such power can be

if labor and neighbor are pushed into slavery

because leaders lack bravery.

Ukraine is but a symptom of harm

long passed on to the poor and powerless

in whatever nation they reside.

We need more bravery and fairness

and less cowardice

before we move on

to tomorrow’s news.

Weak Cores

Saving face

By creating truth

Is the only means of escape

From harsh reality

For those whose core

Is thinned and weak

By lack of moral exercise.

Bread and circuse

Did Rome in.

History ignored

Is repeated evermore.

Distraction through attraction

Diverts the gaze, the ear, the tongue.

This is who we live among.

Doing what is correct

Does not reflect the Right

Constantly claiming false

It’s moral might

Over those whose outrage

Threatens their control,

Their wealth, their privilege.

New faces in new places

Where they were not allowed before

Distort the world view

Of the autocratic few.

It takes strong core

Muscles to stand tall

Before the attack of falsehood

Destroys us all.

BOEHNER HOLDS THE GAVEL; PELOSI HOLDS THE POWER,By Louise Annarino,January 3,2013

BOEHNER HOLDS THE GAVEL;PELOSI HOLDS THE POWER,By Louise Annarino, January 3,2013

There are two kinds of power: positional power and personal power. Nancy Pelosi appeared to lose her positional power when she passed the gavel to Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner, who retained his position today.  Pelosi never relinquished her personal power however. And, I would argue she still retains positional power, even without the gavel. It was Pelosi who delivered the votes to pass the American Taxpayer Relief Act. Boehner could not pass it without her. He lacks the personal power to marshall the votes of his Republican members. Pelosi’s personal power among Democratic members is much stronger. Pelosi consistently delivers those votes as she sees fit.

Boehner needs Pelosi. He cannot lead  the entire House without her. He can only follow the minority of fanatics within his party. Pelosi need never follow Boehner; but, she can lead him! Don’t you love it, ladies?
