MERRY CHRISTMAS 2024

Hope is the deep breath needed to sing Carols

heralding Jesus’ birth.

Hope is the breath first breathed into all living things.

Hope is the breath that softens

the hard contours of defended hearts.

Hope is the breath that soothes

the rough edges of fearful minds.

Hope is the breath that animates

the graceful move to gift our very selves.

Hope is the breath that lifts

the blindness of hateful eyes heavenward.

Hope is the breath that challenges

the world to dream of peaceful, new beginnings.

Hope is the breath that stores

the strength needed for moments when courage is needed.

Hope is the breath that brightens and enlightens

the darkness within each breathless soul.

Christmas is a time for deep breaths filled

with hope to face another moment, day, month, year.

Keep breathing is all that is required to fill

the world with Hope.

Each breath keeps Hope alive.

Merry Christmas with every breath taken

deeper in every way, every day

during the Jubilee Year of Hope.

FLASHPOINT IN THE DARK

Photo by Maria Orlova on Pexels.com

There is no in.

There is no out.

There is no round-about.

There is only here.

There is only now.

There is no you.

There is no me.

There is no whomever-they-may-be.

There is only us, if we could only see.

There is only One being you and me.

Incarnation guided  by a star

reminds us who we really are.

Alpha-Omega lights our way

through the shoals of eternity.

There is no path to anywhere

but everywhere we be.

There is only here.

‘There is only now.

Make the most of the moment

we are allowed.

Three Bows to Untie

There are three bows to be untied

if peace is to abide.

Untie the bow of fear

and open the package of hope.

Untie the bow of greed

and open the package of faith.

Untie the bow of hate

and open the package of love.

Pretend it is Christmas Day

and celebrate

Peace to all of good will,

If you will.

Pretend it is your birthday

and free yourself

Of the past.

When all the bows are untied

Peace will abide.

Christmas 2021

Time sleeps

For those who weep

It’s passage stopped by grief.

Time awakens

For those shaken

By tears’ release.

Glorious morning!

When light is reborn

Time freed of fear and scorn.

People awake who longed

For angels in song

Announcing the birth of a babe.

A babe who restarts time

Reawakens hope

And restores our joy.

Merry Christmas morn!

Delight in this gift given

The day Jesus the Christ is born.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Too bright a light

washes the image

from our sight,

and blurs the edges

as if night

hid the view

in plain sight.

Spotlights have their use.

Their brilliance overrides

the fear of missing

what disaster often hides:

Scenes of tortures

deep and wide

meant to remain hidden.

“Smaller is better”

says the mother of a short child,

in a tiny house, with a small income.

“Too big is too wild”

she states without guile;

“It is the tiny smile

which touches hearts”.

The twinkling stars

in the darkest sky

remind us how far

our souls have journeyed.

And the star atop the tree

joins those strings of lights

to brighten our way.
