MY FELLOW AMERICANS

MY FELLOW AMERICANS

I hold my tongue.

It takes strength I do not have.

Whimpers escape

On shattered breaths,

In silent screams.

The fight worries my soul,

Battle weary and choking,

On words held tight inside.

Once the scream begins

I doubt I could stop.

I wait for your speech.

I yearn for your promise

To stop the authoritarian

Who has taken over our house,

Emptied its vaults,

Stolen its wealth,

Sold its power

To the highest bidders.

So, I write. That I can do

While I wait for you.

To me, this nothing new.

Do you believe me now?

DECONSTRUCTION

Columbus, Ohio 10-18-2025

The streets were lined for blocks on end.

Signs reminded all who rejoiced to attend

Why they walked and talked and smiled and waved

At passing cars who braved delays

While drivers honked horns and shouted out

“Vote him out and make it a rout!”

Costumed critters danced to our delight

Knowing their freedom would give him a fright.

Deconstruct the lies we have been told.

Deconstruct the narrative being sold.

Deconstruct the bullie’s hold.

Deconstruct institutional mold.

Gather in peace the young and the old.

Stronger are you, more wise, more bold.

Deconstruct so we can rebuild

What he has destroyed with his minions’ lack of skill.

We know how to do this, and more.

We have done it many times before.

My thanks to my friends in Clintonville area of Columbus who helped me attend this moment of patriots’ challenge to the con men robbing the USA of its power, wealth, ideals and humanity. The lack of media coverage was appalling. The misrepresentation of attendance numbers cannot be challenged when media fails to provide images of the gatherings. A local station covered it AFTER it was over and crowds had dispersed. Another stated hundreds attended when it was actually thousands. We are here. We are resisting. We are going nowhere until the despotism and kidnapping of people and the Supreme Court, universities, news organizations, social media outlets, medical and public health Institutions… even our very language and the meaning of words and phrases has been brought to an end and freedom restored.

We shall not be silenced.

WAGING WAR

Making public servants an enemy

to be destroyed and removed

from the field of battle against

ignorance,

poverty,

disease,

and injustice

is

making

war

against the Republic

itself.

This is not a restructuring.

This is not a reduction of cost.

This is not quality control.

This

is

making

war

against the republic

itself.

We are not facing a possible

Civil War.

We are in one.

We are not on the precipice of losing

the Rule of Law

and thus, our government

of the people

by the people

and for the people.

We, the people

are being usurped

by technocrats and billionaires

protecting their plantations of wealth

built on greed and false grace

and manacled religions

and on the backs

of what was once

a middle class

unionized and organized

and ready to defend

the American Dream.

Now, we hear their screams

on the battlefield.

And those waging war

in a place where

true leaders once stood

make us beg for terms

of surrender

already written by Putin

and other war lords

against democracies.

We are the first to fall for lies

in submissive position

to the beast

within us all.

We are

making war

against our republic,

against

ourselves.

TRY TO DREAM

Photo by Karyme Franu00e7a on Pexels.com

I try to keep dreaming.

But, nightmares interrupt

and catch the seam of hope

and fray the edges

of the dream.

The night unravels hopes.

Morning brings new light,

but very little, if any, insight

as I try to piece together

a new garment to weather

the storms brewing overhead.

Nothing makes sense.

Every hand is out for cash

to fight the good fight

already lost, and still fraught

with the need to try

to stand,

to grasp hands,

to still the fright.

Yet, dreams turn to nightmares

day after day and

night after night.

Joy can only bend so far

and grace hold up heads and hearts

only so long before the silent song

erupts in outrage and disgust.

We do what we must.

But, dream ? I am no longer sure

that dreams will endure.

All I can promise is

I shall try to keep dreaming

forevermore.

J.D.VANCE

May I lie to you?

I promise to do it sweetly

and completely.

You will not feel a thing,

not really, never really.

Soft-spoken hateful lies

only raise hair across the nape.

Polite lies do not become the farce

of a carnival barker red in the face

who raises bile and never smiles

except in that smug way.

My smug smile lies in wait

only to be seen behind the screen

of my politeness and grace.

The need to shower away filth

subsides as one leans forward

to catch the whispered slide

of my quiet lies across the skin.

Lying to win is not a sin.

I lie so well.

No one can tell.

and so, I softly and secretly smile

with serious gaze all the while.

It is ridiculous

how insidious

polite lies swell.

Can you tell?

AMERICAN HYPOCRISY

Don’t talk to me of hypocrisy.

I am an aspiration,

not an ideology.

I am American democracy.

Like the people who bear my name

I sin, repent, then sin again.

My faith is in future possibility

of behaving with greater civility.

My hope is that together we

can find more equity and equality.

My love is for those like me

who strive to create a better reality.

Perfection is not my goal.

I am prepared to bare my soul

with all its failures and deceits

and courage to hand out receipts

to those I have failed or freedom denied,

determined to atone for unworthy pride.

I am an aspiration. I can say I tried.

I can believe in a future yet untried.

I believe in myself with you at my side.

I am an aspiration,

not an ideology.

Do not talk to me of hypocrisy.
