FLASHPOINT IN THE DARK

Photo by Maria Orlova on Pexels.com

There is no in.

There is no out.

There is no round-about.

There is only here.

There is only now.

There is no you.

There is no me.

There is no whomever-they-may-be.

There is only us, if we could only see.

There is only One being you and me.

Incarnation guided  by a star

reminds us who we really are.

Alpha-Omega lights our way

through the shoals of eternity.

There is no path to anywhere

but everywhere we be.

There is only here.

‘There is only now.

Make the most of the moment

we are allowed.

MISSING YOU

Are the stars truly fixed in the sky?

When you are away the sun

stops in its tracks

and earth’s orbit slows

in heartbeats counted

by years, not seconds.

“Time stands still,” others say.

I say time goes on without me

while there is no us to see.

Without you, the universe stills

along the path of its trajectory.

I wait with bated breath and sigh

for your return while I

watch time march on.

I watch the sky for clues

when the universe would return

you to me and me to you.

Side by side we

can make the sun move.

As we move

among the stars

in ecstasy.

I NEVER FELT SO SMALL BEFORE

I never felt so small before

Tiny dot in a universe of stars

viewed on a clear night

as i looked up at the sky.

This, this I know.

But not this smallness

of heart, and mind, and soul

discovered in the face of war.

War I always fought.

War I always sought

to end and make no more.

And not just war over borders

against peoples and nations;

but war against colors of skin,

war against sexual orientation,

war against religion,

war against women’

war against children.

The list goes on and looms large,

larger than I can cope,

destroying all hope.

I never felt so small before.

I struggle to find a way to do more

than put words on a pages

while all around me uncivil war wages.

I never felts small before.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Too bright a light

washes the image

from our sight,

and blurs the edges

as if night

hid the view

in plain sight.

Spotlights have their use.

Their brilliance overrides

the fear of missing

what disaster often hides:

Scenes of tortures

deep and wide

meant to remain hidden.

“Smaller is better”

says the mother of a short child,

in a tiny house, with a small income.

“Too big is too wild”

she states without guile;

“It is the tiny smile

which touches hearts”.

The twinkling stars

in the darkest sky

remind us how far

our souls have journeyed.

And the star atop the tree

joins those strings of lights

to brighten our way.
